Balfour awarded Heathrows T2 £460m deal
Balfour Beatty have been awarded a £460m contract to deliver the second phase of construction of a satellite building, which will support Heathrow Airport's new terminal.
The construction company will work alongside the in-house design team at Parsons Brinckerhoff, when the next stage of building starts at the terminal known as T2B.
Balfour Beatty successfully completed the first phase of T2B ahead of schedule in November 2009. The next stage of construction jobs are due to begin in October 2010.
The second phase of T2B will see the company deliver 10 new aircraft gates to the east of Terminal 1 and will see the development of a large baggage facility in the new terminal's basement.
This is not the first time Balfour Beatty have been appointed for construction by BAA. According to the Construction Enquirer, in 2008 they were appointed as one of the airport operators third generation framework construction suppliers.
Since then, they have worked on projects at Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Heathrow, Southampton and Stansted airports.
Balfour Beatty Chief Executive, Ian Tyler, told the Construction Enquirer: "We are delighted to have been awarded this work, providing an integrated service for one of our major UK customers.''
"We have a strong track record in delivering complex projects for BAA at Heathrow, including the rail system elements of Terminal 5 and Terminal 2B Phase 1."
BAA Capital Director, Steven Morgan said: "This contract represents another milestone in the modernisation of Heathrow airport.''
"I look forward to continuing our work with Balfour Beatty to ensure delivery on time, on budget, safely and to world class levels of quality."
