Brighton development to create construction jobs
A development in Brighton is set to bring over 100 construction jobs into the area, theargus.co.uk reports.
Long-overdue plans to revolutionise an old fruit and vegetable market now look set to come to fruition after years of stalling after developers the Cathedral Group changed their proposals to make them more financially viable. Now, with plans established to create hundreds of new homes and properties for 400 students, Brighton and Hove council have finally agreed to the plans.
Elsewhere, the developments include office space and a new public square to make for a much improved street scene.
Work is set to begin on the development in June 2013, with the student accommodation and library expected to open their doors in time for the 2014/2015 academic year.
Speaking to sustainablegov.co.uk of the proposals, Brighton and Hove council leader Bill Randall explained: "Times are tough but we're working hard to get developments going.
''These changes reflect current market conditions and the city's high demand for housing and student accommodation. This project will create about 140 full-time construction jobs [and] many of those will be apprenticeships for our younger people."
