Building starts at development in Didcot
Building work has started on a 180 acre site on the outskirts of Didcot, Oxfordshire.
The work is being carried out by construction firm Taylor Wimpey and will see 3,330 houses build over a development period of a decade.
Taylor Wimpey are investing £65m to improve transport links, school and community buildings in the area. The development will see new shops, a community centre, a health centre as well as open spaces and play areas built. It is thought £20m of the construction company's investment will be spend improving the local highway.
Although some building work has started at the site, the construction of the first 220 homes is not due to begin until October, but the work will give construction recruitment in the area a boost.
Of the 3,330 house being built, 1,000 of the planned homes are expected to be used for social housing.
Jon Fletcher, managing director of Taylor Wimpey Oxfordshire told the Construction Enquirer: "Great Western Park has undergone years of extensive planning and consultation."
"The 60m investment will mean that we can establish a real community here that will benefit both existing and new residents," he added.
Ann Ducker, leader of South Oxfordshire District Council old Property Week: "Significant planning has gone into this development to ensure it fully meets the needs of the whole community."
