Construction and engineering top recruitment league
Workers in the construction and engineering industry are in the highest demand according to a survey by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG.
The results come as a positive for construction recruitment with workers in building jobs and civil engineering jobs in demand by firms across the UK. The 'Report on Jobs' show that overall, temporary and permanent staff recruitment has fallen to a nine month low. However, the construction and engineering sector came top of the league compared to other industries, with a 6.6 per cent rate of growth over the second quarter of 2010.
The healthcare sector saw one of the sharpest declines, with the threat of government spending cuts proving a negative impact on demand for these workers.
Bernard Brown, Partner and Head of Business Services at KPMG, was cited in Construction Enquirer as commenting on the results, saying: ''The UK job market continued to slow down in July with overall demand for staff rising at the slowest pace in eight months.''
''Surprisingly, engineering and construction is the sector where staff were most in demand, an indication of a sustained recovery in the manufacturing sector.''
Meanwhile, in an REC news release, chief executive Kevin Green said that public sector sectors in particular must ''avoid knee jerk cuts to staffing levels'' which could affect the recovery of the job market as a whole.
