Construction jobs created by Brent Cross Masterplan
Plans for the regeneration of the area around the Brent cross shopping centre in north-west London could create 27,000 new jobs in construction and development.
A £4.5bn masterplan has been approved by Barnet council. The scheme is aimed at regenerating nearly 250-acres of the local area and will involve continuing development for the next 20 years.
The plan will create hundreds of building jobs and drive local engineering recruitment as the consortium of developers behind the plans put them into action.
Brookfield Europe, Hammerson and Standard life Investments are collaborating in the project and have pledged £965m to pay for local infrastructure improvements.
Labour jobs will be created across the board as money is to be spent on road improvements, cleaning up land and disposing of waste, and the construction of new facilities and transport infrastructure throughout the area.
The plan will demand people with a background in civil engineering jobs, as nearly £198m has been allocated to deal with the environmental measures attached to the transport developments alone. A further £112m is to be spent on clearing up the area.
£109m has also been pledged for community infrastructure improvements, including the construction of new health facilities and premises for three local schools.
Construction jobs will also be offered through the development of a new train station on the midland mainline and a new bus station for the area.
The development of 7000 new homes is also part of the plans for the regeneration of the Brent Cross area, helping to tackle housing shortages in the London area whilst offering opportunities for employment in housing jobs.
Leader of Barnet council Mike Freer said that the scheme "would provide a high boost to employment while at the same time safeguarding the environment."
Cllr Freer said: "This is a major development that will deliver a new residential area of the highest quality, and which will also achieve the highest possible eco standards".
