Contractor named for £560m Ealing regeneration project
Housebuilding and maintenance jobs should be on offer in London this year as the South Acton estate regeneration project has selected a contractor to take charge of the project.
Housebuilder Countryside has been selected to work with social landlord L&Q for the £560m regeneration scheme for the estate in Ealing, London. This project should provide a boost to construction recruitment in the South-East, particularly for those qualified for housing jobs. Around 2,000 homes are to be built as part of the redevelopment of the existing estate, with the overall work site totalling about 40 acres.
Half of the new homes are to be affordable housing open to social schemes, whilst the remainder will be for private sale. As well as housebuilding, the redevelopment will incorporate the construction of new and redevelopment of existing community and cultural facilities, as well as local office and retail space.
The planning application for the project is to be submitted later this year, with a complete masterplan predicted to be completed by summer.
"Our over-arching vision is to transform the South Acton estate into a highly sought after, sustainable, residential community that all residents are proud to live in" said Richard Cherry, the deputy chairman of Countryside properties.
Councillor Will Brooks, the cabinet member for housing at Ealing borough welcomed the outcome of the bidding phase as "a very positive step for the estate".
He said: "It's great that we've been able to appoint the developer that the residents group preferred"
