Coventry City Council lifts lid on £300m shopping complex

Coventry City Council lifts lid on £300m shopping complex

Coventry City Council has unveiled the first blueprint of a £300 million shopping complex that will transform the city centre south, reports coventry.gov.uk.

Alongside partners Aviva, the council has laid out plans for the complex based on the the comments of the general public who took part in a consultation three years ago, cementing the fact the project is "more than just a shopping centre".

In fact, the complex as a whole will contain a new anchor store, a 1,200 space car park, cinema complex, hotel, apartments and new and refurbished retail units, according to Construction Enquirer.

The area that covers Bull Yard, Shelton Square, City Arcade, Barracks car park and Hertford Street will be the location for the build, which attempts to ensure future sustainability and flexibility to accommodate "changing demands of a 21st century city".

It is likely the build will create a number of new construction jobs in the area, especially considering the sheer ambition and scale of the project.

Cllr Linda Bigham, Cabinet Member for City Development, commented: "This blueprint gives a real feel for the way the area will be developed.

"It builds on our work already underway in Broadgate and on the station to Bull Yard route which was always aimed at kick-starting the regeneration of our city centre," she added.
