Engineering jobs created thanks to GE and AVIC collaboration
A collaboration between GE aviation and AVIC Systems of China will be offering around 200 engineering jobs. The jobs will be based at the FE Avionics facility in Grand Rapids, China, though people from all over the world are expected to apply.According to spokesperson for GE, Jennifer Villareal, most of the jobs will be created by the end of next year.
GE endevour to begin a worldwide recruiting effort, with online applications being accepted online now. The jobs offered are all in order to build a narrow body passenger aircraft, called the COMAC C919.
The press release says it will "offer fully integrated, open architecture avionics and services for future commercial aircraft programs. GE will build on its extensive avionics capabilities and its China Technology Center in Shanghai to create a technology center of excellence to serve the commercial aviation market."
GE's partner in this project, AVIC, has over 20 years of experience in developing and manufacturing integrated avonics systems, and providing maintenance services for various types of aircraft.
Jeff Immelt, Chairman and CEO of GE and Lin Zuoming, president of AVIC, signed a framework agreement for open architecture avionics. The announcement was made during China's 'Clean Technology Week in China.'
Mr Zuorning from AVIC commented: "The joint venture and cooperation will offer customers highly competitive solutions that will benefit from the expertise of two industry leaders." While Mr Immelt of GE said: "GE has a fabulous history of forming global partnerships that create new global business opportunities. This builds on one of GE's great strengths. The new company combines GE and AVIC capabilities to develop commercial integrated systems to meet aviation's growing demands. We will utilize the best civil aviation technology, manufacturing capabilities, and management practices to create a globally competitive company."
