Engineering recruitment recevies a boost
Engineering Recruitment in Wales and the West Midlands was given a boost today, after the expansion of an engineering firm.
Unit Engineers and Constructors Ltd have bought Birwelco Ltd from the Haden Freeman Group in a 'multi-million-pound deal.'
The takeover comes after the companies worked together on a number of projects and the acquisition was funded by Lloyds Banking Group.
More than 100 engineering job vacancies could be created by 2013, with the majority of positions being made available at the company's two Welsh sites. The remaining vacancies will be created in the West Midlands, where the company will continue to be based.
The takeover means that Unit Engineers and Constructors, who have traditionally provided fabrication and installation services, will be one of the few engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors operating within the oil, gas and utilities industries.
Biwelco provide design and procurement and the merging of the two companies will mean the entity will be highly influential within the EPC market. Unit Engineers and Constructors have said they predict an annual turnover of more than £50m for Biwelco by 2013.
Bill Ledwood, managing director of the Unit Engineers and Constructors told the BBC: "We aim to create in excess of 100 skilled jobs in Wales as we take on the construction work on Birwelco's order books.
"This additional work will also have a significant positive knock-on effect on suppliers and sub-contractors in Wales. We also expect our export activity to significantly increase to make us one of Wales' leading exporters," he added.
