Expansion of Glasney Student Village to begin soon

University College Falmouth and the University of Exeter are set to create hundreds of construction jobs through the expansion of their student village.

The higher education authorities have agreed to fund the creation of five tower blocks at Glasney Student Village at the Tremough Campus, Penryn.

According to The Construction Enquirer, enabling works have already began at the campus so that the 224 new rooms will be ready for the beginning of the 2012/13 academic year.

Niamh Lamond, who is CEO of the Tremough Campus Services Group, has admitted that the decision to raise tuition fees at the University of Exeter was a large factor behind the decision to improve student accommodation in the area.

In an interview with build.co.uk, he said: "This latest phase of development forms part of the institutions' strategy to ensure that there is sufficient high quality accommodation for students in the locality, in line with the growth of UCF and UoE.

"As we move into a new fees arena, our students will expect the highest of standards in everything that we deliver. The Tremough Campus Services Group is committed to providing students of UCF and UoE with world-class services and this major investments forms part of that approach."
