Foundations laid in £77m Wiltshire homes project

Foundations laid in £77m Wiltshire homes project

Work has begun on a 350-property affordable housing development in west Wiltshire, bringing a host of property jobs with it, according to developers.

The announcement came at a launch ceremony hosted by Persimmon Homes and its sister company Westbury Partnership.

In collaboration with the Wiltshire Council and the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA), the developers plan to bring a mixture of one, two, three and four-bedroom houses, flats and bungalows, to various sites in the region.

In the initial phase of the £77 million development, properties are due to be constructed in Trowbridge, Westbury, Warminster, Melksham and Hilperton, reports Insider Media. The first properties are to be ready to move into during summer 2012.

Nigel Greenaway, south division chief executive, Persimmon Homes and Westbury Partnerships, said that the venture will deliver more homes "into the communities where they are most needed".

Also speaking at the event was John Thomson, Wiltshire council's cabinet member for housing, reports EGovMonitor.com. He similarly welcomed the approval of the HCA for the project, stating that it would not only be a boost to those seeking affordable homes, but for regional employment as well.

"It is especially important during the economic downturn that we are able to provide enough good quality accommodation for Wiltshire's residents, and also bring much-needed jobs and commercial activities to the area," Mr Thomson said.
