Healthcare centre to open in Northampton

A new health care centre is to open at a private mental hospital in Northampton.

St Andrew's Healthcare, the charity which runs St Andrew's Hospital, has announced that the new building is already under construction and will be home to a range of services for people with learning disabilities, Asperger's syndrome, brain injuries and hearing problems.

The new secure unit will boast 132 beds and will have state of the art mental health facilities. There will be eight wards which will have therapy and leisure facilities and to keep with the style of other buildings on the St Andrew's site, the centre has been given a Georgian-style facade.

The construction of the building called William Wake House has given a welcome boost to construction recruitment in the area and health bosses have announced that a further 400 jobs will be created when the centre opens.

Building work at the site is expected to be completed by December and more than 150 staff being appointed jobs at the centre by December 2010. The remainder of positions will be filled by December 2011.

Specialist roles to be advertised for in the upcoming months include psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. Ward management staff in addition to health care assistants, kitchen catering and housekeeping staff will also be recruited.

Rachel Jackson the hospital's director told the Northampton Chronicle and Echo: "The charity works closely with the NHS and this latest impressive facility here at Northampton will provide some of St Andrew's most specialist services to date."
