Hill McGlynn Charity Challenge - Cancer Research
Hill McGlynn sets records through innovating fundraising and smashes target by £10K
Following a year-long charity drive, construction staffing specialist Hill McGlynn has embarked on a series of cheque presentations to worthy not-for-profit organisations, beginning with a £20k donation to its lead charity, Cancer Research.
"When the Charity Challenge was launched last year I had every confidence that our team of committed consultants and back-office staff could build the necessary momentum required to meet out £30,000 target," commented executive chairman Stephen Hill. "But, it was our clients – both big and small – across the construction industry whose support has been invaluable and ultimately enabled us to surpass our goal by more than 25 per cent."
Hill McGlynn’s 338-strong staff embraced the challenge from the onset and, unsurprisingly from a team of top performers; relentless fundraising efforts took place across the firm’s UK branch network. From the conventional (cake bake sales) to the adventurous (a Kilimanjaro climb and skydiving) to the plain silly (a bad dress day which reconfirmed the reason why the suited and booted look should be maintained by recruitment consultants!) there was no stopping until the fundraising target was met…and even then it continued!
In addition to Cancer Research, other beneficiaries include The Alzheimer’s Society, The Multiple Sclerosis Society and Sudden Adult Death Syndrome in addition to a number of hospices local to the recruitment company’s regional offices.
"I’m extremely proud to say that overriding characteristic which defines our own workforce is an ingrained commitment to going over and above the necessary to deliver the goods – regardless of whether it’s knowledge, people or in this case support for some of the UK’s most deserving charities," Hill said.
Continuing, he confirmed that: "Corporate social responsibility is not a new concept at Hill McGlynn, it’s just how we have always looked to do business."
Hill, who founded the company 30 years ago, referred back to his original business objectives when the question was raised as to why the business had achieved such success in its fundraising efforts:
"When I first established the recruitment business I was very clear about two things:firstly, the company would not be a ‘jack of all trades’ recruiter, we wanted to be 100 per cent committed to the construction industry in order to give our clients better service; and secondly, our company culture was to be one which nurtures and maximises the passion our team has to offer through initiatives which would benefit our industry and the surrounding regions. I’m proud to say we’ve managed to achieve both!
He added: "The support of our clients and the construction industry as a whole has been tremendous and we hope that hundreds – if not thousands – of people will directly benefit from this generosity."
