Hull development could create 300 new construction jobs

The proposed redevelopment of one of Hull's most famous industrial sites could create hundreds of new construction jobs, according to local news source Hull Daily Mail.

East Yorkshire construction firm Ispace is seeking permission to transform the former Humbrol site on Hedon Road into a new, eco-friendly business park.

If planning permission is approved, the new development will be called Marfleet Environmental Technology Park. It is thought that the project would create around 300 positions including many jobs in construction.

Under the proposed building plans, 10 industrial units would be created on the site along with parking space for 212 cars. The new development has a strong focus on sustainability, with 10% of the park's energy set to be generated by solar panels.

Plans to modernise and refurbish the existing Humbrol buildings were approved in June 2009 and a decision on the rest of the proposed development should be made in the near future.

Ispace director Simon Dixon believes that the Hedon Road project would provide a boost for the local and would fit in perfectly with similar eco-friendly projects around the city.

"We think Hedon Road will be really important in terms of what is going on at the docks and what is happening in the green industries, so we are really excited by the area," Mr Dixon told Hull Daily Mail.

"What the site gives us is great positioning and good leverage to be able to attract companies of all sizes," he added.
