Lincolnshire 'new town' could create variety of construction jobs

A planned development in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, could see the creation of a wide variety of construction jobs.

Thonock and Somerby estates have proposed a 'new town' development to south of Gainsborough. The plans include a range of community services, from leisure and medical facilities to two new primary schools. As well as this the plans include business and employment spaces.

As well as the large number of labouring jobs that would be created by the development, it could be a strong source of property design jobs in the UK. Currently the plans are still under review and it is expected that they will need additional work before implementation, despite the support of the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment's (CABE) design-review panel.

Recently CABE told West Lindsey District Council that Thonock and Somerby had put forward a strong proposal for development. CABE was particularly enthusiastic about integrating the new neighbourhood with the existing areas of Gainsborough, and has encouraged the planners to take this aspect further in subsequent designs. Building.co.uk reports that CABE was "particularly enthusiastic" about the proposals to use natural geography to inform the shape of the development.

Speaking to Building.co.uk, a spokesman for Thonock and Somerby responded to the endorsement. Tom Aylmer said "is an important stakeholder, and we will take on board the constructive comments it has provided".

“The consultation process is ongoing, and we will be maintaining dialogue with CABE and other consultees. We also plan to stage further community consultation events for the Gainsborough public sometime in the New Year"
