shaping the world of work

Migrating Down Under

With the English summer in the doldrums, it was no wonder that the turn out was high to the Hill McGlynn Australia Open Day held in London at the beginning of July.

The Open Day was a chance for UK construction professionals to see what career opportunities are available for working in Australia and to discuss other formalities of living aboard such as Visa’s and accommodation. It was also an opportunity for Australian construction professionals working in the UK on a temporary visa to discuss employment prospects before leaving for their return home.

The Open day was also attended by Managing Director of Hill McGlynn Australia, Owen Goodhead, who was in the UK for a short working holiday and he brought with him examples of projects which are currently being worked on in Melbourne where the Australian office is based.

Whilst the UK Construction Market is continuing to grow, the lure of working overseas and a better climate is obviously attractive to UK professionals. The Melbourne construction market is also in a period of sustained growth, which also makes it attractive to candidates looking for work.

Managing Director, Owen Goodhead said of the Open Day: - "The fantastic turnout of construction professionals to our Open Day highlighted the desire for many to work and live overseas. Construction is an ideal industry in which to travel, not only in Australia, but all around the world as large projects are always being undertaken and UK candidates are one of the most sought after due to their experience and training. I know that we will be dealing with many of the candidates who attended the event over the coming months and look forward to meeting them again in a more sunnier climate!"

A year after opening, the Hill McGlynn Australia business is continuing to grow its team of eight and has established itself as one of the leading recruitment organisations for technical and professional staff in Melbourne and surrounding regions.
