Morgan Sindall 'on track' for 2010

Morgan Sindall 'on track' for 2010

The construction group Morgan Sindall PLC says that it is confident about the coming year, despite a small reduction in its forward order book.

Morgan Sindall is one of the UK's leading construction and regeneration groups. With a £2.5billion turnover, it is one of the country's major employers for jobs in construction and civil engineering.

In a recent official release, the group said that fit out and public sector contracts continued to perform strongly over 2009 and it expects this to continue into 2010. It says that margins remain robust for fit-out work, but that work in construction was performing strongest in the public sector.

Currently the group is at preferred bidder stage on two major public sector projects. Work on the Tayside Mental Health project, worth £100m, and on Hull BSF (£200m), should provide a steady source of building and labour jobs once they begin. Morgan Sindall says that it expects to finalise the contracts for both in the first quarter of 2010.

The group is also confident that it will have plenty of opportunities for civil engineers in 2010 as its infrastructure services continue to perform. There will also be opportunities in maintenance jobs and housing construction as the group is seeing a steady flow of refurbishment and new build social housing opportunities.

The trading update said: "We remain mindful of the challenges facing the sector in the longer term and continue to shape our business accordingly."

“Each of our divisions continues to particularly focus on cash management, cost reduction and supply chain improvements, as well as responding to market growth opportunities where they present themselves.”
