The current target of 80% compliance for the construction workforce being CSCS Health & Safety qualified, which was set by the Major Contractors Group, is falling short with only 38% of companies surveyed in Novembers monthly Hill McGlynn Recruitment Trends survey obtaining the target as of December 2002.
The panel of UK construction companies responding to the survey represented approximately 11,500 employees. However, of these, some 29% of all companies surveyed were not aware of their current CSCS Qualification levels and when the 80% target - let alone 100% compliance, would be achieved. Even more worrying was the fact that 12% of the companies had less than 10% of its workforce CSCS qualified.
The survey found that 100% compliance with the CSCS Health & Safety qualification by December 2003 is at the moment looking unattainable, with many companies leaving the onus on individual employees to organise the qualification and application process.
Following the survey findings and Hill McGlynn’s commitment to Health & Safety in the industry, Hill McGlynn are offering all construction staff, whatever their position, the chance to obtain their CSCS Health & Safety qualification for free and also take all the hassle of the paperwork by preparing all the paperwork. They are also offering guidance and advice to any companies wishing to find out information on the application process. To take advantage of this offer, call 0800 169 0863 for more information.
