People in building jobs are luckiest in UK
People in building jobs are arguably among the luckiest people in the UK, as the profession comes top of a new list of lottery winning professions.
Nearly £1bn in lottery prize money has been won by people who work in jobs in construction according to new figures compiled by Camelot.
Whether topping the National Lottery Luck Professions list of the most 'fortunate' trades will help boost construction recruitment is debatable - but it seems particularly relevant given the most recent Euromillions win in the UK. Last month, a family of builders - the Stuart family of Dorking, Surrey - scooped more than £26.1 million.
To qualify in Camelot's list, lottery prize winners had to have enjoyed a win of £50,000 or more. The list was compiled to celebrate the £85 million EuroMillions Mega Draw this Friday, which could set a new record for British lottery prizes. If the estimated jackpot is won by a single ticket holder it will be the biggest lottery prize ever paid out in the UK.
Construction worker came top of the top 10 'fortunate' professions, followed by administration, management, manufacturing, driving, catering industry, retail, the financial sector, care/social work and the medical profession.
Although it is impossible to be certain, these positions are probably more significant in what they reveal about the popularity of playing the lottery among these professions than their inherent luck. If more construction workers play the lottery than administrators, construction work is statistically likely to be the 'luckiest' profession.
