Spurs eye up new £400m stadium
After agreeing a number of infrastructure improvements worth £27 million in North London, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club has pledged to build a new stadium in the area.
An "iconic, new Premier League stadium development and a host of local improvements" have been earmarked for the area according to a joint statement by the club and Haringey Council.
The Northumberland Development Project, the codename for Spurs' stadium plans, will cost around £400 million, according to Construction Enquirer.
North Tottenham is set for massive rejuvenation from a number of sources including Mayor of London Boris Johnson, who has committed £18 million towards regeneration of the area, and Haringey Council, which has pledged £9 million towards "new and improved public spaces, heritage work and environmental improvements".
In addition, the regeneration work has the potential to create a substantial number of construction jobs in North Tottenham and its surrounding area.
Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy said in a statement, cited by Sky Sports: "We have long said we could only invest in the area if we could see our commitment supported by others and that there was a real need to maximise the regeneration benefits and lift the wider area.
"We therefore see this as a commitment from the public sector to the Tottenham area and one which strengthens our ability to deliver a new stadium scheme with the potential to kickstart the long-term regeneration of north Tottenham," he added.
