27,000 jobs created thanks to 4.5 billion regeneration scheme in London

Thousands of construction jobs in the London Borough of Barnet are to be created thanks to a £4.5 billion regeneration. 27,000 jobs are to be offered to assist the building of 7,500 new homes, a new railway and bus stations, as well as around £500 million worth of investment in transport infrastructure.

The scheme will see many improvements within the Borough. With £189 million spent on environmental measures, £200 million for road improvements, £109 million on community infrastructure such as health centres and schools, £112 million will be invested in waste disposal and cleaning up the land.

Other construction jobs will see the building of a new town centre, modern health facilities, state of the art buildings, six bridges, and three new schools and parks. The plans have been put forward to The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson and the Government Office London.

Councillor and leader of Barnet Council, Mike Freer said: "This is a once in a generation opportunity to secure significant investment in a part of our borough that needs a major boost. It will enable us to deliver our policy of creating successful suburbs, while at the same time safeguarding the environment."

The project is expected to begin in 2013 and is being developed by The Brent Cross Cricklewood Development Partners. It's partners in the project are made up of Hammerson, Standard Life Investments UK Shopping Centre Trust and Brookfield Europe.
